Michael David Fick, 54, of Wadsworth passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 29, 2017, while working in West Palm Beach, FL. Michael was born on July 18, 1962, to Larry and Donna (Richard) Fick.
Michael was raised in Barberton, Ohio and was a 1980 graduate of Barberton High School. Growing up he excelled in football, baseball and basketball. He was a great athlete, scholar student and very competitive, lettering in both basketball and baseball.
He attended John Carroll University and Case Western Reserve University in a binary program (3-2) majoring in both Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. Having a grandfather, great-grandfather, & uncle who worked for Babcock & Wilcox, he was excited to start his career in the town where he grew up. He was a member of Northside Christian Church.
Mike had a career with the Babcock & Wilcox Company that spanned more than 31 years. Mike was a well-respected engineer at B & W and served as a valued colleague, a mentor and friend to those who worked with him. Mike most recently served as a Project Director to a recently built power plant in West Palm Beach, Florida and was recently promoted to General Manager of the B & W Palm Beach Resource Recovery Corp. responsible for the Operation and Management of the facilities owned by Palm Beach County.
He was tirelessly dedicated to his job and his family. He put 110% in everything he did, being extremely detail oriented. He was an unselfish, dedicated father to his daughters and a wonderful husband and a faithful friend to many. Things he enjoyed were playing and watching sports, weight lifting, skiing, traveling, fishing, and time with friends. Taking vacations with his family was something he really treasured. Being involved in all aspects of his daughter’s lives and successes meant the world to him. With a dry sense of humor and a quick wit, people really enjoyed his company. He was very intelligent and knowledgeable on a wide variety of topics. Mike was often described as being a hard worker, mild mannered, and easy to work with, possessing an incredibly strong work ethic. Not ever boastful, he was well respected for his achievements. Mike will be so incredibly missed by all that knew him and loved him! A life ended way too early!
