Paul C. Johnson, 81, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at his home in Wadsworth, Ohio. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on May 17, 1936, where he lived until joining and serving in the USAF in 1955 for four years. He married Clara (Campbell) Johnson on July 26, 1958. After working 13 years as a life insurance salesman, he completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree and served many years in the pastorate in Pennsylvania and New York. In 2006 he retired from working as a representative for Shepherd’s Home. He faithfully served as a member of Youngs Corners Fellowship Baptist Church in Wadsworth for over twenty years.
He will always be remembered for the love he had of the Peanuts comics, his great sense of humor, an ongoing passion for poetry and storytelling and his appreciation of good music. He had a never-ending loyalty to the Chicago Cubs and a deep love for his family and friends. Most of all, he is remembered for his unwavering devotion to his Lord and Savior, in Whom he placed his trust.
He was preceded in death by parents, Francis and Edith; two children, Christopher and a baby girl; brother, Richard and sister, Phyllis.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Clara; brother and sister-in-law, Lee and Marva and sister-in-law, Evalyn; four children, Lynne (Jeff) Tanner, Philip (Haeryeon) Johnson, Michael (Judy) Johnson and Sally (Dennis) Barefoot; ten grandchildren, Kris Johnson, Sam (Mercedes) Johnson, Robin (Andrew) O’Dell, Kellie Tanner, Kevin (Brittany) Tanner, Tony Johnson, Ted (Dawn) Johnson, Ben (Aune) Johnson, Jonathan (Emily) Barefoot and Caleb Barefoot; and five great grandchildren, Brennan and Wesley O’Dell, Kinley and Luke Johnson and Camila Johnson.
Visitation hours will be Monday, July 31, 2017, from 5 pm – 8 pm at Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home located at 174 North Lyman Street, Wadsworth, OH 44281. Services will be held Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at 11 am with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
