Andrew Cheslock, Jr., 91, of Wadsworth passed away Oct. 30, 2017. He was born Oct. 8, 1926 to the late Andrew and Mary Cheslock in Fairpoint, OH.

Andy graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1944 where he played football for close family friend Woody Hayes. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served in the South Pacific area of Southern Honshu Hiroshima–Nagasaki Japan aboard the Destroyer USS McGinty. He attended Baldwin Wallace College, where he played football for the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets and was a member of Phi Kappa Fraternity.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was one of the founding members of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was also a member of the 3rd degree Knight of Columbus, Elks Lodge, and Akron Square Merchants Association, where he served 8 years as President. Andrew retired from Montgomery Ward after 30 years’ service. After retirement, he and his wife LaVerne were the owners and managers of Village Gift Shop in Norton for 19 years.

He enjoyed golfing, hunting, boating and traveling. His greatest joy came from being a devoted husband to Roberta for 64 years.

He is preceded in death by brother Joseph Cheslock.

Andrew is survived by his wife Roberta (Pearson) Cheslock, sons Dennis (Lynn) Cheslock and Bradley (Lori) Cheslock, grandchildren Steve (Kristin) Cheslock, Karen (Howie) Carbaugh, Kimberly (Chris) Hawkins and Heather Cheslock. There are 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Susan Brady.

Family will receive friends Thursday from 4-7 pm at the Hilliard Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St. Wadsworth, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 11am Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 260 Broad St., Wadsworth with Father Pat Spicer officiating. Interment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
