Wadsworth, Ohio

Penny (Pennington) Barnhart passed peacefully in her home on March 20, 2024 with her loving partner and husband of over 30 years, Barney (Don) Barnhart, and her cherished fur babies, Lucy and Dixie, at her side.
Our Father’s house has many rooms, and the one the Lord undoubtedly prepared for Penny is the kitchen. When surviving family and friends meet her again, they will likely find her there baking Christmas cookies and making potato salad. Feeding people was Penny’s love language.
Among those surviving family members are her children and bonus children: Rusty (Holley) Johns, Tabitha (Jeff) Talbert, Wendy (Ryan) Gifford, Don Young, and Brian Young; her many grandchildren and bonus grandchildren: Katelin (Matt) Tremaine, Megan Paas, Jackson Paas, Max Albright, Alex Albright, Tori Young, Emma Young, Jayden Young, Lily Young, Olivia Young, Abigail Young, Madison Young, Cole Gordon, Caden Gordon, Abby Gordon, Anthony Gifford, and Kait (Ben) Cunningham; her siblings: Sonny Cantrell, Bob (Judy) Pennington, Darlene Aldridge, Tim (Carla) Pennington, and Ginny (Tom) O’Neill; and many nieces and nephews she loved dearly.
Penny also kept a very large extended family. Most friends were regarded as such, particularly the racing family she collected over years of drag racing with Barney at Norwalk Raceway Park and other tracks. She believed “old friends are the best friends” and, true to her words, she did not part with relationships easily. She still embraced many former in-laws and also maintained a large group of childhood friends from Plain City who could come together after years as if no more than a day had passed.
Penny never met a stranger, never found a problem she could not solve, and never lost sight of her blessings. Her welcoming, stubborn, and joyful spirit will be missed by everyone who knew her.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 29, 2024 at 9:45 AM at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at Wadsworth Eagles Aerie 2117 9953 Rittman Rd. 44281
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Penny’s memory to one of her favorite charities. Rescuing their dogs has been a special part of Penny and Barney’s life together, which is a passion shared by their children and grandchildren as well. Donations are requested to Freedom Tails Ohio. Drag racing is the root of Penny and Barney’s relationship, and the racetrack is where they spent countless hours loving each other and making lifelong friendships. Donations are requested to Racers for Christ.
