Russel C. Bendel, 85, went home to be with the Lord on February 5, 2013. Russ was born on December 8, 1927 in Sardis, Monroe Co., Ohio.

He served in the US Army from Feb. 1946 to Aug. 1947 as a Military Policeman. He was a member of the Wadsworth Fraternal Order of Eagles for many years, playing softball and bowling. He coached Little League Teams in Wadsworth in the 60’s and 70’s and he loved baseball. Russ worked for the Akron Beacon Journal (composing room) for 26 years and served as union steward.

Russel was preceded in death by his parents Roy J. and Alice B. (Davis) and brothers Cecil, Marvin and Roy Jr.

Survived by his wife of 34 years, Marta K. and sister Anna J. Wilson of Rittman; sons Russel R. of Marshalville, Rodger W. of Akron and Michael A. of Cuyahoga Falls; grandchildren Robert Bendel of Norton, Shawna (Kevin) Burge of Columbus; sister-in-law Jackie Bendel of Wadsworth, nieces and nephews; Bill (Joanne) Bendel, Debra (Scott) Adams, Timothy Bendel, Steve (Susie) Bendel, Lori (Raymond) Dickerhoof, Matt (Rachel) Bendel, Lee Bendel, Kimberly (Kevin) Gasser, Alan Wilson and Kevin Wilson.

The family will receive friends Thursday 6 to 8 PM at Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St., Wadsworth.

Private interment will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
