Obituary
Dr. Gabe Lewis Campbell, 78, of Wadsworth, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2012. He was born on May 20, 1933 in Middletown, OH to the late Helen and Gabe Campbell II.
He attended Fort Jefferson Elementary School near Greenville, OH, one of the last one room schools in Ohio and was the only student in his grade. Gabe continued his education graduating from The Ohio State University School of Law, his Masters of Divinity from Vanderbilt Divinity School at Vanderbilt University and his PhD in Nueropsychobiology from New York University.
He pastored at Smart Presbyterian Church in TN, Miami Shores Community Church in FL, First Community Church in Columbus, OH taught at Chicago Theological Seminary, pastored at Second Congregational in Greenwich, CT, First Congregational in Stamford, CT. and First Congregational in Akron, OH.
The early part of his career was spent working with youth, including being very active with 4-H. Due to that work there have been several articles and books written and movies made of his work and accomplishments.
Gabe is survived by the love of his life Sandra with whom he celebrated 51 years of marriage, his daughter and son-in-law Susan and David Heideman of Wadsworth and son and daughter-in-law Ben and Jenny Campbell of Norton. There are 6 grandchildren, Nate, Jackson, Tyson, Gabriela Heideman, Katie and Sebastian Campbell. There are his siblings Gabrellen Pfarr of PA and Dowling Campbell of AZ along with is brother-in-law and sister-in-law Arthur and Torrey Felio also surviving.
The family will receive friends 2-5 PM, Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St., Wadsworth.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1:30 PM, Sunday, February 12, 2012 at First Congregational Church with Drs. Jay Groat, Terry Gordon and William Muse officiating.
