Roland “Lundy” A. Cookro, 88, of Wadsworth, passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011. He was born on November 3, 1923 in Akron to the late Vincent and Maria Cuccaro. Mr. Cookro served in the United States Army having achieved the rank of Master Sergeant, received a Purple Heart and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Roland was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and retired from J.C. Penney Insurance Co. where he was Vice President of Claims. He was a fantastic father, patient teacher and a skilled craftsman, he loved Canadian fishing and camping trips with friends and family.
Lundy was preceded in death by his wife Edith, son Ronald, grandson Steven and eight siblings: Rose, Minnie, Grace, Tony, Patrick, Ange, Mayle and Josephine.
He is survived by two sons and daughters in law; Robert and Rickie Cookro of Akron, Dan and Liz Cookro of California, seven grandchildren: Roland, David, Debra, Christopher, Adam, Andrew and Kristen along with several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 5-8PM Tuesday at the Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St. Wadsworth. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30AM Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 272 Broad St. Wadsworth. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
