Brian Robert Crowley (aka Big Dog) passed away on Jan. 19, 2019. He was born Nov. 17, 1958. Brian had a zest for living and loved life. He wrestled Angels of Death many times; he finally yielded to them and died peacefully in his sleep.
After graduating from Wadsworth High in 1977, Brian held various jobs. From working as a car mechanic to a roughneck in the oil fields of Texas to salmon boats in Alaska, Brian never avoided a challenge. He tackled jobs as he took on most of life- with full throated abandon. After his Traumatic Brain Injury caused from a tragic car crash in 1984, he took on his new challenges with the same determination. Even when he had setbacks, he was rarely depressed and never despondent. He walked with parallel bars after much hard work at Broadfield Manor in Madison, OH. In spite of his injuries, Brian found the determination to travel, ride horses and four-wheelers, and go whitewater rafting. After more than 20 years at Broadfield, the head injury wing closed, he moved to LifeCare of Medina, which nearly killed him. Brian was loved and cared for by the outstanding staff at Altercare of Wadsworth since 2014. Through it all, he showed gratitude to those who encouraged him and was glad to see all who came to visit. He kept his sense of humor to the end. He will be missed by many people. His lust for life and love of family was a gift of his parents.
Brian was predeceased by his parents, Joanne and Jerry Crowley, as well as many great friends. He leaves behind 8 siblings: Colleen (Bruce) Farley, Joe (Rose), Tom (Shereen), Matt, Steve (Barb), Mary (Bryan) Doty, Mark (Jenny), and Bill (Jen). He also leaves a boatload of nieces and nephews: Sarah, Becca, Theresa, Claire, Tom, Martin, Vince, Jared, Jon, David, Jake, James, Zac, Matt, Curt, Liam, Bridget (the apple of his eye), Kimberlie, Evan, and Noah.
Calling hours will be at Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home on Sunday, Jan. 27 from 3:00-6:00 pm. The Rosary will be recited at 5:45 pm.
An additional calling hour will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, Jan. 28 at Sacred Heart Church in Wadsworth followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
