Esther M. Danals, (Née Melvin), 96, passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021.
Born April 28, 1925 in Mercer County, PA to Dr. Earl And Irene Melvin, the family moved to Wadsworth, Ohio where Esther remained a life-long resident.
When she was 14, Esther was chosen to be the first queen of Wadsworth for the 125th anniversary celebration. Subsequently she was honored in the 150th, 175th and Wadsworth’s Bicentennial.
Esther graduated from Wadsworth High School in 1943 and attended Bowling Green State University. Honorably, she worked at The Blue Tip Match Company during WWII and Western Electric. In 1946, Esther married Dr. Charles R. Danals, former mayor of Wadsworth.
She was a member of Rawiga Ladies Golf Association, Bud ‘N’ Bloom Garden Club, various bridge clubs, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and a life member of Wadsworth United Methodist Church and Women’s Circle. An excellent homemaker, she enjoyed knitting and was a fabulous pastry maker and known for her pies. Often outdoors, she enjoyed hiking , golf , parks and Chippewa Lake.
Esther adored her family and was kind and gentle to everyone she met. She was a beautiful and humble person who never said a negative thing about anyone. That beautiful smile of hers captured your heart.
The family would like to give sincere thanks to caregiver Irene Turns. Heartfelt appreciation from the family is extended to her loving companion of twenty- seven years, Veatch Hickerson, for all the loyalty, dedication, gentle care, compassion, and love he gave Esther.
She was preceded in death by parents Dr. Earl and Irene Melvin and husband of forty-four years, Dr. Charles R. Danals and one nephew .
Esther is Survived by children Dr. Steven R. Danals (Debi), Marsha Danals, Scott Danals (Mary), grandchildren Nathan Danals (Cassie), Kyle Danals (Elizabeth), Andrew Danals, Ashley Lehman, Mike Lehman, Evan Danals (Camille), Melia Ng (Mike), four great-grandchildren, two nieces and a nephew.
Calling hours 10:00 AM -1 hour before the service – as well as Funeral 11:00 AM Tuesday October 26, 2021 at the Wadsworth United Methodist Church
