Fairlawn – Helen Volchko Davies, 98, died February 10, 2022 surrounded by her children.

She was born October 12, 1923 in Akron to the late Michael and Anna Volchko. Helen was a longtime active member of St Andrew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Norton. She volunteered for more than 50 years at Barberton Citizens and Wadsworth Rittman Hospitals and the American Red Cross. Prior to the birth of her children, she worked for 17 years at Goodyear. Known far and wide for her love of cooking and her wicked sense of humor, it was however, her grandchildren upon whom she doted.

Preceded in death by brothers Theodore (Ann), Emil (Mildred), Andrew (Mary), Paul (Ruth), Edward (Juanita), and Delbert (Jan) and sister Irene, she is survived by sisters Paulyne Popiel and Anne Volchko. Preceded in death by her husband James E Davies Sr, she is survived by daughter Dr Beth A Davies, Columbus; son James E (Dianna) Davies Jr, of Wadsworth, grandchildren James III (Felicia), Randolph, Anna (Brian) Nelson, Macedonia, Paul, Austin, TX, Sarah (Russell) Bolendar, Delaware OH, Michael (Franklin, TN) and Christina (Wadsworth) and great grandson Lucas Nelson; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff of The Village of St. Edward (especially Lyn, Sharon, Rachel, Kathleen, Ashley, Crystal), Fairlawn, Senior Helpers (Mark, Joy, Linda, Paty, Sydney, Tonya, and Angelica) and Elara Caring (Sarah) for their dedicated and loving service to Helen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 260 Broad St. in Wadsworth, with Fr. James Maloney Celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Services will be livestreamed at A private committal service will be conducted at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Akron Canton Regional Food Bank, 350 Opportunity Pkwy, Akron Ohio 44307.
