Robert E. Davis, 87, residing in Wadsworth for over 50 years, passed away on 4/17/2024 after a long courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Born September 7, 1936 to Katherine and Carlyle Davis, he was raised in Doylestown, Ohio.

He grew up with 4 siblings…Older brother, the late John Marshall Davis (Joyce), twin sister, the late Roberta Ann Ringler, Nora Valin (Kent) and Edward Hiteshew (Patsy)

After graduating high school, he proudly joined the United States Army along with 4 of his buddies.

He told many stories about their travels and this is where he learned his cooking skills, especially dried beef and gravy.

After returning from the Army, he married the late Barbara Ann Millhoff and they settled down on his little farm on the hill in Wadsworth and had two children. David Davis (Carla) and Cathy Davis-Morgan.

On his farm he raised beef cattle. He also loved his many dogs and cats.  He never met an animal that didn’t love him!  But his favorite pet was a baby fox he rescued when its mother was hit by a car.  He named it Freddie and he spoiled it rotten for about 18 years. After it died…he had it stuffed and it sat on his mantle for about 25 years, until he moved to the Doylestown Nursing Home.

Dad lived on a farm but he also had a career as a carpenter and construction worker. Two projects of which he was most proud were the Canton Ohio Football Hall of Fame and Rolling Acres Mall in Akron, Ohio.

Bob was an avid gardener and shared his vegetables with those he loved, especially his favorite cook and long-time companion Annabelle Thompson. Together, they enjoyed Blue-Grass music festivals, visiting friends and going out to eat. She so kindly became his caretaker during his last few years before his admission to the nursing facility. For this, we are forever grateful to her!

Dad created many long, cherished friendships throughout his life. Those he loved and lost

include,  but not exclusive to:  Ralph Thompson,  Bob Cole, Jack Snyder,  Bill Ettling, Aggie Mills, Scotty Mills and so many more that I cannot name them all.

But his greatest role of all was being a grandfather to Jackie Davis (Mike), Bobby Davis, Katie Davis (Donny), Scott Davis and Jack Morgan (Jessica).

Whether it be attending all of the birthday parties, taking everyone out for dinner or sharing his love of animals…Grandpa was always there!

He also enjoyed the love of many great grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild.

Bob also leaves behind many cousins, nieces,  nephews and Aunt Dorothy Troje (Joe).

Those waiting on him in heaven include; his parents Katherine and Carlyle,  step-fathers Paul Hiteshew and Howard Werner,  brother John, twin sister Roberta, many aunts and uncles, cousin Clarence “Whitey” Casenhiser, and great granddaughter Brooklynn.

Bob was a long time blood donor, and we would like to encourage all to become donors in his memory.

He also had a hole-in-one once on the golf course, and he even had the trophy to prove it.

I know what I will miss most of all about my Father, is his sense of humor, sarcasm and wit!

Never a dull moment!

One final thought…two of his favorite things were going out for Barberton Chicken or having a big bowl of ice cream before bed. Whenever you indulge in either of these, please think of him!

And enjoy it, he did for 87 years!
