Joyce Sleighter Earle passed away peacefully on February 26 at the Inn at Coal Ridge in Wadsworth after a long illness. She was 86.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Joyce graduated from Austintown Fitch High School, where she sang in the choir. She worked as an executive secretary until her marriage in 1962 to Chuck Earle. That same year, Chuck and Joyce moved from Smith Corners, Ohio to Kankakee, Illinois  where Chuck was a student  at Olivet Nazarene University. While living there, they started their growing family.

Family ties brought them back to Northeast Ohio and they eventually settled in Wadsworth, where Joyce worked as a secretary at Freed Ford, a classroom aide at Wadsworth City Schools, and a closing agent at Kaufmann Realty.

Among her many hobbies, Joyce loved to cook for her family and was known for her “Joycey specials” –  meals she created from a combination of ingredients she had on hand in the kitchen that followed no recipe.

Joyce lended her cooking talents to Wadsworth’s Meals on Wheels, where she volunteered in the kitchen for several years. After her retirement in 2014, she enjoyed spending time at the Soprema Center, lunching with friends and walking at the YMCA’s indoor track. Reading was one of her great passions and she belonged to several book clubs at the Wadsworth Public Library.

Joyce loved to travel and took several once-in-a-lifetime trips, traveling twice to Europe and once to Hawaii.

She leaves behind her greatest accomplishments – her three children: Rob (Susan), Todd (Kristi) and Stacy Hutchins (Ray);  seven grandchildren: William (Courtney), Ryan, Allison Messam (Louis), Jordyn Boerema (Tristan), Jocelyn, Kevin and Ray Hutchins IV; and three great-grandchildren, Levi, Elijah and Eloise.

The family would like to express gratitude to the incredible staff at the Inn at Coal Ridge for the kindness and loving care of Joyce throughout her time there. There will be no services and the family will hold a private burial. Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home handled arrangements.
