Obituary
WADSWORTH
John Allen Grauer, CDR., USNR, 85, died November 15, 2012, born December 18, 1926 in Bucyrus, Ohio to the late Fillmore and Eva Grauer.
A longtime resident of Wadsworth and active member of Grace Lutheran Church, Mr. Grauer served several terms as church council president and participated in numerous church committees. Mr. Grauer proudly served his country in the US Navy, where he was an Aviation Midshipman, flew in several patrol squadrons in the South Pacific, served as a Flight Instructor in NAS Pensacola and flew many transport missions, including some for VIPs. Mr. Grauer taught math at Barberton High School and was a negotiator for the Barberton High School Teachers Association. Mr. Grauer was active in many community organizations, including Kiwanis,Wadsworth City Shade Tree Commission, MCDAC, and Wadsworth Airman Association. In his leisure time, John enjoyed golfing, traveling, cheering on the Buckeyes, spending time with friends and family, and, of course, flying.
Preceded in death by his brother Robert and sister Marian Maggraf, he is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara; daughter Susan E. Grauer, M.D. of Oregon; son J. David Grauer, M.D. (Kathy) of Colorado; granddaughters Kacey and Taylor; nephews Robert Marggraf and John Marggraf, and niece Jane Lombardo.
The family will receive friends Sunday 2 to 5 PM at Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman Street, Wadsworth and Monday 10 to 11 AM at Grace Lutheran Church, 146 High Street, Wadsworth, where Rev. Dan Cammarn will conduct the funeral service at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, with full military honors. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church Building Fund.
