Samuel D. Hamilton Jr.

Born September 26, 1914, in Akron, Ohio, was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Mary, wife Frances (mother of his children) and brothers Dick and Bill. He is survived by wife Mary, children Sam (Debbi), Marla Cummins (Dave), Shelly (Mike) Karl, Sylvia (Mike) Matheos, Kim (Ron) Jenkins, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, brother Don (Mary), and sister Mary Ann (Richard) Backderf. He is also survived by step-daughters Shirley (Bob) Casey, Jackie (Kris) Hovey and Pat (Alan) Spitzer.
Growing up, Sam lived in several southern states where his Dad built churches and schools. His military service in WWII began in the cavalry where he patrolled the Mexican border on horseback. He later became a gilder pilot instructor and taught aerial gunnery in bombers at Savannah, GA. Sam worked for Firestone for thirty years as a pipe fitter and taught hydraulics and pneumatics at Akron University for Firestone.
Sam enjoyed ballroom dancing and traveling. He visited Europe three times, Alaska and Cayman Islands and made many trips to Florida, as well as throughout the U.S.
The family wishes to thank St. Luke Community on Turkeyfoot Lake for their kind and loving care and Crossroads Hospice for their wonderful care. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home at 174 N. Lyman in Wadsworth on Tuesday, November 9th at 10:30AM. Burial will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
