Neil F. Hassinger

Wadsworth — Neil F. Hassinger, age 83 of Wadsworth, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2022. He was born November 22, 1938 in Norwich, OH to the late Floyd A. and June R. (Shock) Hassinger.

Neil graduated from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy on July 25, 1965, and served the patrol for 28 years before retiring as a Staff Lieutenant. After retirement he worked with former Sheriff John Rebar and went on to serve as Medina County Sheriff from Jan. 6, 1997 until retirement on Jan. 6, 2013. Sheriff Hassinger was a member of Canaan Free Will Baptist Church, the Wadsworth Lions Club, and many law enforcement organizations.

He was preceded in death by six siblings (Phyllis, Billy, Nancy, Raymond, Gene, Connie), and is survived by his wife, Pat to whom he was married for 66 years; their children, Barry Hassinger, Mike (Peggy) Hassinger, Cheryl Hassinger, Craig (Suzie) Hassinger and Chris (Hilary) Hassinger; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and siblings, Ruth Johnson, Patti Reichhart and Jerry Hassinger.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022, from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. at The Chapel Wadsworth Campus, 1391 State Rd., Wadsworth; and Friday, Sept 9, 2022 from 10 to 11 a.m. with Funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Seville.
