D. "Alex"
Wadsworth, OH

Alexander D. “Alex” Hays, age 18 of Wadsworth, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 due to complications from his congenital heart defect. He was born on July 11, 2002 in Wadsworth to Scott and Laurie (nee Tekautz) Hays and was a 2020 graduate of Wadsworth High School.

Alex was a former employee of the Galaxy in Wadsworth and the Dairy Queen in Seville, and was currently employed at Luke Engineering. He shared a love for the Iowa Hawkeye’s like his dad, and loved his animals, especially his dog and best friend, Gizmo and his crazy cat, Bella.

Alex was always smiling and was a great friend. He loved playing baseball and basketball, working out at the gym, and mowing the grass. Alex had a heart of gold. He loved to smile and laugh, and always looked for the positive in any negative situation. He was the bravest, strongest young man you could ever know. In his short 18 years, he endured more than most adults, but he fought like no one else and was determined to never let his heart condition define who he was. He was a huge “Momma’s Boy”, and usually wasn’t afraid to admit it.

He was a wonderful friend to many, and was lucky enough to have great friends who were more like family. Billy, DJ, Mason, Christian, Jeff, Landon, Russell, and Sam (I might be missing some), you will always be his brother, and will always be family. Some of his best memories were made traveling with friends and with his Uncle. Please always cherish the memories you have made with our sweet boy and remember him with love and laughter.

Alex was preceded in death by our family friend, Douglas Stroh (Uncle Dougie-Pooh). He is survived by his father, Scott; mother, Laurie Hays; siblings, Kaitlyn, Nathaniel and Madeline; grandparents, Randy and Gloria Hays and Gregory and Shelly Tekautz; uncles, John, Greg, Josh and Troy; aunts, “Auntie” Antoinette and Darlene; and very special cousin, Nick; as well as numerous other family members and friends who love and cherish him.

Visitation will be held at Radiant Life Church, 844 Hartman Road, Wadsworth on Monday, April 12 from 5 to 8 p.m., and Tuesday, April 13 from 4 to 5 p.m. Funeral service will take place Tuesday at 5 p.m. with Pastor Anthony Jackson officiating. A gathering will take place following the service at 6:30 p.m. at the Galaxy Restaurant. Donations can be made in Alex’s memory to the funeral home.
