Wanita E. Hillestad
July 19, 1925 – June 4, 2021
Wanita Elizabeth Hillestad passed peacefully on Friday, June 4, 2021 at home. She saw her sister, Violet, granddaughter, Julianna and daughter in law, Teri and other loved ones and friends shortly before her death. Her loving cat, Lilly, was at her side continuously in her later years and upon her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tollief in 1999, and her son, Mark in 2011.
Wanita graduated from East High School. She worked as a medical stenographer for several physicians in the Akron area and also for many years at several of the Akron area hospitals.
Wanita, Tollief and Mark loved the Florida Keys. They all spent a lot of time together boating and enjoying many water- related activities in this beautiful environment. Eventually, Tollief and Wanita over wintered on Summerland Key for many years. Wanita then spent a significant amount of time in the Naples area of Florida after Tollief’s death with her son, Mark, daughter in law, Teri and granddaughter, Julianna.
Wanita is survived by her loving sister, Violet, her granddaughter, Julianna and her daughter in law, Teri as well as her loving neighbors, Julie and Mike Stafford who always kept a watchful eye out for Wanita and treated her as family, the Kreider family who were so kind and helpful to Wanita over the years as well as the many kind and loving caregivers from Home Instead Senior Care service.
There will be a small gathering and service held in memory of Wanita at Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home in Wadsworth prior to her burial at Woodlawn Cemetery. The service will be held on Tuesday, June 15, at 12 noon with visitation one hour prior, beginning at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Wanita’s name to Concordia Lutheran Church, 742 Sumner St, Akron, OH 44311, 330-535-1330.
