Matthew Alan Hunt, 51, passed away unexpectedly at home on September 6, 2023 from complications of type 1 diabetes. He was an amazing father, son, brother and friend. In addition, he was a talented artist.

 

He was born on January 26, 1972 in Cuyahoga Falls.  He graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1990. He attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio studying art and business management.

 

He was a self-taught artist inspired by many famous creators of art and motivated by his loving family and friends. He was amazingly talented and worked with many local museums and galleries.  He completed hundreds of commissioned portraits and original works which hang in public and private collections around the world. In 2001, he was commissioned to paint a portrait of President Ronald Reagan which is on display at The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California. Many of his portraits are currently on display at the University of Akron Buchtel Hall and at the University of Akron School of Law.

He also loved all animals and all aspects of nature.

He is survived by his son, Parker Hunt, who was the light of his life, and former wife, Leah Hunt.  He is also survived by his parents, mother Cynthia Thomson (Don Williams) and father David Hunt; stepmother Rita Labbe, brother Phillip Hunt (Kelly) and many other loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life and his art will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Akrona Galleries,1765 W, Market Street, Akron, Ohio 44313.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Humane Society of Summit County or the American Diabetes Association.

To quote Matthew, “If everything was taken from me but my heart and mind, I would still have all that I need to create art. Even if it must stay locked inside of me.”
