John James Hutchens, 76 of Wadsworth, OH passed away at Autumnwood Nursing & Rehabilitation in Rittman, OH on August 5, 2023. John was born on December 29, 1946 in Akron, OH to Harold T. and Gerry (Hayes) Hutchens.

He graduated from Akron North High school in 1964 and attended 1 year at Akron University before joining the U.S. Army, earning his Green Beret from Ft. Bragg in Fayetteville, NC. John fought in the Vietnam War, where he earned a purple heart and was honorably discharged in Nov. 1968. Upon his discharge, he joined the workforce, spending 18 years with BF Goodrich until they moved headquarters to Alabama, at which time he became a mail carrier. John then retired from N.E. Waterworks in Canton, OH in 2006.

He was a 200 average bowler and had 5-300 games and many team championships. John also enjoyed golfing, fishing and was a 22 year member of the Special Ops Assoc & Special Forces Assoc. John was a loving and adoring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be dearly missed.

John is survived by his loving wife of 55 1/2 years, Faye; his children, John J. Hutchens II, Robert H. (Crystal) Hutchens, and Sammy (Eric) Busson; his grandchildren, Alissa (Josh), Selena (Cody), Alexandra, Lindsey, EJ, Cidnee, RJ, and Anthony; his brother, Harold T. (Therese); his sister, Pam; three great granddaughters and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerry & Harold T. Hutchens; his grandparents, Phoebe May & John (Poppy) Hutchens and Jesse & James Hayes; his in-laws, Robert & Estelle Connell; his sister-in-law Mazie (Rice) Miller; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Family will receive friends 5-8 PM on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at the Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home 174 N. Lyman St. Wadsworth, OH. Funeral service will be held at 11AM on Friday, August 11, 2023 at the funeral home. Burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
