Obituary
Pearl Z. Johnson, 86 of Sharon Township went to live with her Lord Monday September 29, 2014.
She was born Pearl Zook Dart in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to the late John and Emma Dart, the youngest of 5 children giving her 4 older brothers to both torment and protect her.
As a teenager she met a young man named Charles A. Johnson, soon to become the love of her life. They married in 1944 beginning a loving marriage that spanned 7 decades with them celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary in July of this year.
Love and marriage was as often happens, followed by a baby carriage in fact two as she was blessed with 2 daughters, Nancy and Doris. She and her family flourished in Lancaster but career opportunities were limited there. A sense of adventure, desire for opportunity and family in tow the Johnsons migrated west to the Cleveland area in 1950.
Pearl possessed excellent secretarial skills and had no trouble landing jobs as a top executive secretary. Part of her duties included planning foreign trips for her boss and meeting international dignitaries which in turn fostered her love of travel.
Full time career, family to raise and she still managed to be very active in her community. She helped start Holy Trinity Lutheran church in Brunswick and brought Girl Scouts to the area, remaining active in both for many years.
Time moved on and as it did she became and enthusiastic horsewoman, a world traveler and a mother for the third time with the arrival of her son Charles Jr.
A move to Sharon Township in the 1970’s provided new opportunities for community involvement as she joined Sharon Woman’s Club and served as president on three separate occasions, later she joined Akron City club and chaired several committees. The arrival of her son provided a shift in scouting involvement from Girl Scouts to Boy Scouts where she served in many leadership roles for the next 18 years.
Beloved by her family and her community the world was truly a better place because of Pearl.
