Mike passed away at Barberton Hospital surrounded by his loving family Monday January 23, 2023. He was born June 8, 1934, in Akron to the late Giacomo and Pasqua (Sardone) Lionetti. Mike graduated from Akron North High School at the age of 16, he then earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Akron where he met the love of his life Irene (Kormendy) with whom he celebrated over 65 years of marriage.
Mike is best remembered as a family oriented, loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for over 50 years where he served as an Usher and Accolade. Through the years he served 8 years in the U.S. Army Reserve, worked for A. Schulman, Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Goodyear Aerospace and retired after 25-years as a Pharmaceutical Sales Rep. for Sanofi. He was a volunteer at Wadsworth Rittman Hospital, a board member for the Society of Handicap Citizens, and Jednota club member. Mike enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, whether it be Indian Guides, traveling, golfing or bowling. He had a passion for baking, especially pizza, always putting his personal touches on recipes. Mike also engaged in stained glass, woodworking, gardening, and innovating. He respectfully shared his perspective on current events in person or writing letters to the editor. His service to others and faith in God was an inspiration to those around him.
Mike is survived by his wife Irene, sons: James (Michelle) of Copley, Thomas of Wadsworth, Robert (Narola) of Luxembourg. His grandchildren: Lara of Italy, Jason (Sarah) of Wadsworth, Michael of Richfield, Andrew and Rebecca of Luxembourg; his great granddaughter, Ruby of Wadsworth, brother Anthony(Patricia) of Copley, two nieces and relatives in Italy and Spain.
The family will receive friends 4-7PM Monday, January 30 at the Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St., Wadsworth where the Rosary will be recited at 6:45PM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11am Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 272 Broad St., Wadsworth with Fr. Patrick Schultz, Celebrant. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Windfall Industries, 150 D Quadral Dr., Wadsworth, OH 44281.
