Robert Lee Mathys, 84, of Wadsworth went to be with Jesus July 13, 2022 after declining health post heart attack in May. He spent his last 2 weeks at home cared for and surrounded by his wife and family.
Bob was born August of 1937 in Sterling, Ohio to Edward & Barbara (Zollinger) Mathys. He had 10 siblings (Edna, Phillip, John, Art, Jim, Fred, Betty, Mae, Blanche, & Russ). He was a loving husband to his surviving wife, Tina, for 43 years. Combined they had 7 children; Debbie (John) Gerbetz, Patty (Tom) Schmitz, Cheri Mathys, Brad (Colleen) Wertz, Mike (Rochelle) Mathys, Jon (Kristin) Wertz, and Amy (Bill) Boden. He has 24 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Bob was a civil engineer and retired in 1994 after 37 years at Ohio Edison. He built the home he lived in for 40+ years in Rittman. He loved fishing, boating, riding bicycles & working on cars. He could fix about anything with duck-tape, wire & whatever else he had laying around. He was a devoted member of First Assembly of God/Radiant Life Church in Wadsworth for over 60 years. He taught many kids classes at church including Royal Rangers and sang in the church choir. He has left a legacy impacting so many of being a hardworking, kind, quiet man that dearly loved God and his family.
Family and friends will be received for visitation Friday, July 15, from 12 to 2 p.m. at Radiant Life Church, 844 Hartman Rd, Wadsworth, OH 44281, where Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Lance Porubsky officiating.
