Jo (Josephine) Allen Proffitt, born in Clearfield, PA, July 10, 1923 passed away at the age of 92 at Rockynol on November 11, 2015. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 66 years, William E. Proffitt (Sweet William) and her sister Bertha Blakney.

Jo is survived by her son Bill (Diane) Proffitt of Mississippi and daughter Joyce (Nick) Soranno of Fairlawn. Four grandchildren survive her: Jennifer Proffitt, W. Scott Proffitt (Andrea), Christopher Soranno (Amy) and Dr. Danielle Soranno. She also had four great-grandchildren, Alexa and Cole Soranno and Lucas and Leah Proffitt.

Bill and Jo both attended the original Seiberling grade school in Goodyear Heights and old East High School. They were married October 11, 1943 and attended Goodyear Heights Presbyterian Church for over 70 years. They were more recently members of the First Christian Church in Wadsworth,.

She taught Sunday school and beginner swimming lessons for years. She retired from Firestone in 1982 and became a tour guide at Stan Hywet for over 28 years. She donated many gallons of blood to the Red Cross, enjoyed playing golf and many card games and enjoyed sewing.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at First Christian Church, 116 E. Boyer St., Wadsworth with Rev. James L. Singleton officiating. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to services from 10-11am.

Inurnment will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
