Hilda M. Purdy, 98, formerly of Wadsworth more recently of Tallmadge, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday August 18, 2010. She was born October 14, 1911 in Dillonvale, OH to the late Russell and Lizzie DeYarmon. She went to Muskingham College for 2 years where she played basketball and graduated with a diploma in Elementary Education. She was an active member of the Wadsworth Christian and Missionary Alliance Church (now Freshwater Community Church) in Wadsworth and was a former grade school teacher.
She was preceded in death by her husband,Charles; sisters, Ruth Jack, Mildred Jennings and brother Lloyd DeYarmon.
Mrs. Purdy is survived by her daughter, Carol (Myron) Carothers of Tallmadge: grandson, Bret (Ekhlas) Carothers: granddaughter, Dena (Bill) Earnsberger:and great grandchildren, Chad, Alyssa and Brian.
The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Friday at the Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home 174 N. Lyman St. Wadsworth. Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 PM Saturday at Freshwater Community Church, 185 Humbolt Ave. Wadsworth with Pastor Tim Steiner officiating. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Freshwater Community Church
