Obituary
Kirk L.Rogers, 75, went to be with his Lord and Savior, on Friday, May 2nd, 2014.
He was born in Caney, Kansas, August 18, 1938 to the late Ethel and Jack Rogers. He attended Caney High School, and joined the U.S. Navy in 1955, serving 4 years and earning 2nd Class Aviation Electrician and his GED. He received his Bachelors in Management in 1971and Masters in International Business in 1992, both from Dallas Baptist University.
After honorable discharge from the Navy he was employed as maintenance electrician at John’s Manville in Denison, Texas for 2 years. In 1961 he began his 30-year career with IBM, beginning as maintenance electrician, moving into customer engineering, as Service Manager and in Training Manager positions in Louisiana and Texas. During his IBM career he won five National “IBM Means Service” Awards (the first IBMer to ever do so). He went on to be the Deputy Director of Eldercare in Bartlesville, Ok, and the Executive Director of Reaching Hands in Tulsa, Ok. In Tulsa he facilitated an Alzheimer’s men’s support group for over 8 years. Upon moving to Ohio in 2007, he enjoyed part time work, facilitating a men’s Bible study and volunteering for LifeCare Hospice where he was awarded the 2014 Kearney Award for volunteer of the year. He was active in several Churches over the years, teaching Sunday School, leading Bible Studies, and serving as an ordained Deacon. He enjoyed woodworking, antiques, his 3 chihuahua’s, and deeply loved his family and sons.
He is survived by his loving wife Lynn J. Rogers (Souder), 3 sons: Christopher Rogers of Dallas; Kirk Rogers II of Dallas; the Honorable KC Rogers (Mary) of Roswell, NM. He is also survived by his brothers, Keith Rogers (Barbara); Kenny Rogers (Sherri) one sister, Cindy Yowell (Danny) 5 grandchildren Christopher II, Jacquelyn, Michael, Margaret (Kinnard), Nicole, and 6 great grandchildren, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to The Wadsworth Salvation Army, P.O. Box 300, Wadsworth, OH 44282.
A memorial service will be held at The Wadworth Chapel at 1391 State Road, Wadsworth on Wednesday May 7, at 3:00pm.
Burial services will take place in his hometown of Caney, Kansas later this month. He is greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew him. We celebrate both his life and the promise of eternal life.
