Obituary
Roy S. Schimmelpfenig, “Harmonica Roy”, 85, died peacefully at Magnolia Village November 15, 2009. Born August 31, 1924 in Capac, MI, he graduated valedictorian of his Capac High School class and attended Illinois Tech and Michigan State University receiving a BS in Mechanical and Civil Engineering. He was an eight year US Navy veteran. A resident of Wadsworth since 1953, he was an active member of the United Methodist Church and a thirty year employee of the Babcock & Wilcox Company. Roy taught GED, math and science, was a maintenance manager at Magnolia Village and part-time surveyor for David Moore.
Married 52 years to wife Marcia, he had four children Jean (Donald) Bertz of Phoenix AZ, Gary (Christine) of St. Louis, MO, Kimberly (Grindle) and Thomas (Roberta) both of Wadsworth, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Sherrie (Walton) Schlechtweg of Middletown, CT. A reception, service, and luncheon honoring Roy was held November 20 at the Wadsworth United Methodist Church. He was laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery, Wadsworth.
Roy was admired and loved by many and will be remembered most for the lives he touched and the smiles and happy memories he provided at area preschools and nursing homes through his harmonica music and vaudeville style entertainment.
A heart-felt thanks to the Magnolia Village staff for their love, devotion, support and care for “your buddy”, Roy.
A memorial service will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday, November 20, 2009 at the Wadsworth United Methodist Church, 195 Broad St. Wadsworth with Rev. Jim Winkler officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the church. Inurnment Woodlawn Cemetery.
