Helen M. Schmidt (nee Winkler), 88, of Wadsworth, died on Tuesday, February 7, 2017.

Born June 20, 1928 in Akron to the late Steve and Mary Winkler, Helen was a homemaker and loved to garden; especially flowers. She was married to Gerald H. Schmidt on April 22, 1950 and they had two daughters, Catherine and Joan.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; brothers, Steven Winkler and Louis Winkler; sisters, Rose Popp, Mary Menich, Frances Kulscar, Betty Rabatin, and son-in-law, David Byers.

Helen is survived by daughters Catherine Byers and Joan (David) Lampa; grandson Gerald (Karen) and two great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Altercare Rehabilitation & Nursing Center of Wadsworth for almost 9 years of wonderful care and Absolute Hospice for their tender care during the last few weeks.

The family will receive friends at Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N Lyman St, Wadsworth, on Thursday, February 16, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, February 17, at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Barbara Bartholomew will officiate. Private burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.
