Robert Falk Shaffer, 81, of Wadsworth passed away November 20, 2012 after several years of declining health. He was born on July 16, 1931 in Wadsworth to the late Carl and Martha Falk Shaffer. Mr. Shaffer was a graduate of Wadsworth High School class of 1949 and attended Babson College. Bob worked at Firestone Tire and Rubber for 30 years in the Racing Division as an Engineer. He was a founding member of the Wadsworth Historical Society. Bob was extremely proud of his ancestors who settled in Wadsworth in 1815 and made this community their home. He had been a Board Member of the Salvation Army, was a member of the Wadsworth Lions Club, American Legion Post 170, Wadsworth Lodge 385 F&AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Akron for 58 years, was a Shriner and was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War. Bob was also a member of the Buick Club of America, Buick Akron – Canton Chapter, Antique Automobile Club of America Canton Chapter and Vintage Chevrolet Club of America. He was very proud of his 1955 Red Buick Convertible that he purchased new in 1955 and drove in many Wadsworth parades and still owns it today.
He was preceded in death by his younger sister Marilyn and brother in law Richard Koon.
Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years Virginia (Lou) (nee Koon). He was the loving father of Alan Shaffer, Michelle (Nicholas) Serra and the loving grandfather of Emily Murray. He is also survived by his brother Dr. David (Sally) Shaffer, sisters in law Alberta (Arthur) Witten, Georgann (Bob) Johnston all of the greater Akron area, brother in law Clarence “Sonny” (Marge) Koon of Pittsburgh, PA, sister in law Jeanne Koon of California and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends 5-8 pm Friday at the Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St. Wadsworth where funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Saturday with Major Tom Grace officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
