Virginia Lucille (“Lou”) Shaffer, 91, of Wadsworth passed away Saturday, October 30, 2021 in the comfort of her home. She was born January 16, 1930 in Akron to the late Clarence and Carrie Koon.
She was a graduate of Wadsworth High School. Virginia worked in her parent’s bakery, Koon’s Bakery, a favorite in downtown Wadsworth. Virginia loved gardening and was always willing to lend her knowledge to anyone that had questions about their plants or gardens. She loved working in her own greenhouse and took great pride in her home’s beautiful gardens and landscaping. She was very artistic and enjoyed sharing that with her granddaughter, Emily.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Falk Shaffer in 2012, brother Richard Koon and sister Georgeann Johnston. Virginia is survived by her children and granddaughter. The loving mother of Alan Shaffer, Michelle (Nicholas) Serra and the loving grandmother of Emily Murray. She is also survived by her sister Alberta Witten of Wadsworth, brother Clarence “Sonny” (Marge) Koon of Pittsburgh, PA; sister-in-law Jeannine Koon of Palo Alto, CA, brother-in-law Bob Johnston of Wadsworth, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dr. David (Sally) Shaffer of Akron; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to First Light Home Care of Akron staff and all of Virginia’s wonderful caregivers, Traditions Health Hospice and Dr. Christopher Rucker and staff.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 9th, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St. in Wadsworth. Facial coverings are required. Private burial will be held for the family.
