Gene R. Sievert, 88, formerly of Wadsworth, went home to be with the Lord April 30, 2013. He was born June 1, 1924 in Eaton, Ohio to the late William and Ethel (Pierce) Sievert.

A longtime area resident, Gene was a true man of God. He taught Sunday School and enjoyed spending time with his family. Gene proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps during WWII, where he flew 64 missions. He was awarded the Air Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters, the EAME Theatre Ribbon with 2 bronze stars, the Good Conduct Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Medal. He earned a Bachelor of Theology degree from the St. Paul Bible Institute in St. Paul, Minnesota, and served as a pastor in Renville, MN and New London, OH. He earned his Master’s Degree from Case Western Reserve University in Education Administration. During his career in education, Gene was a teacher in the North Ridgeville School District, teacher and administrator in the Wellington Exempted Village School District, and assistant superintendent and principal for Brunswick City Schools. Gene enjoyed golfing and woodworking. One of his special projects was rebuilding the foundation of a house built in 1864 when he lived in Wellington.

Gene was preceded in death by his first wife, Faye Elizabeth (Myers), and brothers Howard, Earle, Paul, and Glenn. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Stoddard-Ernshaw), children: Sandra Funk of San Diego, Lonni (Mearl) Sawin of Traverse City, MI, Debbie Liddy of Wadsworth, Galen (Charlotte) Sievert of Akron, and Brian Sievert of San Diego; step-children: Molly (Mark) Eastwood of Granger Township, Craig (Linda) Ernshaw of Bend, Oregon, and Scott (Betsy) Ernshaw of Sharon Center; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday 6 to 8 PM at Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman Street in Wadsworth. Private family inurnment will occur at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on May 9, 2013. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Acute Palliative Care Unit, Akron City Hospital, 525 E.
