Joe Smisko, 93, died peacefully at home Monday, January 8, 2018. Joe was born in 1924 in Aliquippa, PA. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and earned his PhD in physical chemistry at the University of Kentucky. He was employed as a chemist at PPG Industries for over 30 years, where he met his wife of 55 years, Ruth, also a chemist. As parents of four children, science and a love for learning was a part of daily life! Upon retiring, he enjoyed teaching college level chemistry and exploring his love for astronomy.

Joe lived an example of selflessness, kindness, and fairness and taught that “love gets you through”. He loved sports, especially baseball and golf. His desire to serve was apparent in his dedication to Kiwanis, Windfall Industries, and Sacred Heart Church. His grandchildren admire his quick wit, stealth sense of humor, and know him as the smartest man on the planet.

Joe is survived by his children Dan (Nancy), Betsy (Hugh) Wunderlich, Marianne (Rick) Brucker, and Kate (Kirk) Cahill. Additional joys of his life are his eight grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM Saturday, January 13th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 260 Broad Street, Wadsworth, Ohio, 44281, with a viewing on Friday from 4-6 PM at Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St.

Memorial donations may be made to Wadsworth Kiwanis Club, P.O. Box 351, Wadsworth, Ohio 44281 or Windfall Industries, 150 D Quadral Drive, Wadsworth, Ohio 44281.
