JoAnn Marie “Jody” Smith was born on March 25, 1966 in Wadsworth to Bonnie and Leo Smith. She graduated from Wadsworth High School in 1984 and Walsh University in 2002.

She was a Development Contractor for Akron Children’s Hospital, Children’s Miracle Network working tirelessly raising funds for children suffering from life threatening illnesses. She was also a bartender for many years at Dano’s Lakeside Pub.

On April 7, 2016 God called her home unexpectedly. She ascended from her beloved Portage Lakes home into the waiting arms of her father Leo Smith, nephew Scott Smith, brother-in-law Rick Poetter, first love Bryan Williams, grandparents, aunts, uncles and dear friends.

She loved her life on the lake, opening her home to all of her many family and friends who motored by on land and water. She loved planning days at the lake for her very large family and always made days together very special.

Her passion for life and her giving spirit will forever be remembered by her mother, Bonnie Smith, sisters Mary Ellen Poetter, Sue (Jim) Fajt, Barb (Allen) Lesure, brothers Mike (Margo), Jim, Steve and Tom Smith all of Wadsworth, 23 nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews who adored her, and many close friends.

“Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.” Rest in peace sweet angel until we meet again.

Calling hours Tuesday, April 19 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Funeral service on Wednesday, April 20 at 1:00 pm all at Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman Street, Wadsworth, with Deacon Roger Klaas officiating. Burial at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 9650 Acme Road, Seville.
