Persis Snoke, 79, of Wadsworth, passed away at her daughter’s home on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 20, 1932 in Carey, OH to the late George and Josephine (nee McCabe) Newhard.
She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church for over 55 years. She was also a member of the Bud and Bloom Garden Club, Art and History and cooked for Meals on Wheels for many years. Persis loved gardening, skiing, cooking and entertaining. She opened her home to all. She also loved traveling to her second home in Snowmass, CO. Persis was a devoted and dedicated mother to all of her children, but was a special care giver to her son John for over 44 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband William Snoke, son John, and brother Joe Newhard.
Persis will be dearly missed by her daughter Mary Dunham (Andy), son Joe Snoke (Lori), her beloved grandchildren Hilary, Peter, Kyle and Allie, her sister Mary Adams, brother Dr. Horace “Bix” Newhard, devoted family friend Mike Gruver, longtime friend and companion Butch Duerk, and her many friends.
The family will receive friends 2-5PM Sunday at the Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St. Wadsworth. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday at Grace Lutheran Church, 146 High St. Wadsworth with Rev. Ann Paynter officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, 215 High St., Wadsworth, OH or the Grace Lutheran Church Building Fund. Special thanks to Hospice of Medina County.
