Curly Gene Snowden, 75, born August 24, 1938, in Rutland, OH, to George and Edith (Braley) Snowden, went to meet his Lord on Sunday, July 6, 2014. He passed away due to heart failure.
Curly joined the army at 16, serving in Louisiana, Texas, and Berlin, Germany. His unit guarded the Spandau Prison. After serving his country, Curly returned to Wadsworth, where he had lived from the age of 10. His sister, Lulu Belle, introduced him to his future wife, Ruth Kish. They celebrated 54 years of life together.
Curly worked at Bare Foot Sole for 25 years. He was also animal warden for the City of Wadsworth. He served in this capacity many years part time and then ten years full time. He retired in 1996. Curly became a Christian in 2003 and joined Ridgewood Baptist Church. He leaves behind many dear friends and neighbors, including every animal and child that he met. His family will miss him dearly, but knows that he is in a better place.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly; brothers: Silven and Neal Snowden; parents: George and Edith Snowden.
Curly leaves behind his beloved wife, Ruth; son, Jeff (San Jose, CA); daughter, Cheryl (Mike) Morris (Lafayette, IN); sisters: Naomi (Cecil) Hersman (Doylestown); Lulu Belle Scott ( Chippewa Lake); Georgia (Ron) Allen (Wadsworth); brother: Scotty Snowden (Billings, Montana); many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces Jennifer and Taylor Burlingame, whom Curly and Ruth helped care for.
Friends and family may call Thursday, July 10, 2014, from 10:00 – 12:00pm at Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St, Wadsworth. Services are at 12 noon. The commitment service and interment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Romig Road, Akron directly following the commitment service. Contributions may be made to Ridgewood Baptist Church in lieu of flowers.
