Joseph Wain Stadler went home to be with the Lord Feb. 10, 2012 after a brief illness in Mission, TX.

He was born in Wadsworth, OH to the late Paul and Anna (Felkl) Stadler and raised on a farm on Seville Rd. The values of hard work and commerce were instilled as a child; rising early to tend the farm animals as well as work long hours in the fields. Joe and his brother Tony loaded corn into his wagon and walked several miles to town each day to sell the corn passers-by.

He was a WWII Army Veteran serving in the following battles and campaigns: Normandy, Northern France, Rineland, Central Europe, Ardennes and the Air Offensive Europe and received the EAME Ribbon with six bronze stars. Upon returning home he went to work for Babcock and Wilcox in the Service, Parts and Sales Dept. An avid golfer, he played on both the B&W golf and bowling leagues. He retired from B&W in 1982 and continued to play golf on the retiree league.

A devout Catholic, he was a Parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wadsworth, where he and his wife Donna (Shaw) were married in 1946. Donna and Joe settled in Norton, OH and raised two children, Larry and Susan (Ebert). They became members of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Norton where Joseph was an Usher and member of the Holy Name Society for over 30 years.

Joe was a member of the Barberton Elks Club as well as the Catholic Slovak Sokol Club where he could be found every Wednesday night enjoying the spirited Polka music and warm friendship.

After retirement, Joe worked at his son’s lighting store with his wife Donna before deciding to spend their winters at Aladdin Villas Retirement Community in Mission, TX. There, Joe could be seen wearing his orange vest and working traffic control for special events at the park. He also helped to serve at breakfasts and dinners.

Joseph is preceded in death by his, his wife, Donna (Shaw) and son Larry W. Stadler, his brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Rose Stotler, his sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Harold Leidel, his brother, Johnny.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan (Ebert) and Steve Simmons; grandchildren, Jason (Sherri) Ebert, Daniel Ebert, Lauren Ebert, and Kris Cusick; great grandsons, Logan, Brody, and Brennan Ebert and Korvin Cusick. He is also survived by his cousins Martin (Betty) Felkl and John (Julia) Felkl as well as many nieces and nephews and special friends Tom and Donna Schuenemann of Carefree, MN.

Always willing to lend a hand, Joe was loved by all who knew him for his kind and caring nature. He is loved and will be missed by many.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012 from 5-8PM at Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St., Wadsworth, OH, where Eulogies will be given at 7:30PM Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday Feb. 16, 2012 at 11:00AM at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, Johnson Rd., Norton, OH. Luncheon to follow mass.
