Marian Stephens,(nee Shamansky) 91, of Wadsworth passed away August 14, 2010 at the Hospice of Medina County surrounded by her loving family. Marian was born August 1, 1919 in Ramey, PA to the late Hrye and Annie Shamansky. She graduated from Madera High School on May 25, 1938. Due to lack of employment in Ramey, PA she moved to New York City with her friends and worked as a Nanny. When WWII started she moved to Akron with her brothers and started working for Firestone Aircraft, as a riveter and at Firestone Tire & Rubber in Quality Control until 1954. She met her husband, Howard who was on leave from the Army and they married August 18, 1945. Her hobbies included playing bridge with the University of Akron Faculty Women’s Club, attending A.C.S. meeting’s ladies programs and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She belonged to the The University of Akron Faculty Women’s Group, Akron Metro Parks Hiking Club, Cleveland Hiking Club, Buckeye Trail Association and Folks March Club. Before her illness one of her favorite activities was attending University of Akron Basketball and Football Games.
She was preceeded in death by her brothers Charles and George Shamansky. Marian is survived by her husband, Horward with whom she would have celebrated 65 years of marriage, daughter Dee Dee (James) Pifer, grandsons Matthew and Zachery Pifer all of Wadsworth, sister-in-law Judy Shamansky of Akron, cousin Elaine Stephens of Hartville, niece Lois McIntire of Seattle, WA, a special family member and a dear friend Norma Pifer and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends 5-8 PM Wednesday at the Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home 174 N. Lyman St. Wadsworth where funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 AM Thursday with Deacon Richard Michney officiating. Interment will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
