Obituary
Sarah (Sally) E. Straiton “fell asleep” for her final day here on this earth on October 27, 2014 only to find eternal rest in the arms of her Savior. Heaven gained an incredible lady who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Born in Clyde, Ohio on March 2, 1934 to George and Catherine Smith. At the age of 6, “Sally” went to live with her Aunt, “Goldie” Smith in Louisville, Kentucky. There she met and married her husband Kenneth L. Erwin, Sr. (deceased) on May 1st 1954. Together, they raised six children: Vicki (Matt) Golz, Kenneth Jr. (deceased) (Rose) Erwin, Lesa (George) Strong, Vincent (Angie) Erwin, Martin (Holly) Erwin, and Christopher (Peggy) Erwin. “Sally” was blessed with 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
In 1993, she married Frank D. Straiton (deceased). Sally retired from Morton Salt Company, enjoyed participating in Women’s Bible Study Fellowship for 9 years and volunteered at the Community Pregnancy Center for 15 years.
Sally never met a stranger or missed an opportunity to provide a listening ear, as she encouraged them to share their personal stories. Her legacy of prayer for family, friends and neighbors is only a shallow reflection of her deep faith and love for her Lord. Like grains of wheat in the wind, we may never know how far reaching those prayers were, but be assured that they found fertile soil in the hearts of many. You will be incredibly missed Mom…enjoy your garden…
The family will receive friends Thursday 5 to 8 PM at Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman Street in Wadsworth, Rosary Service at 8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 9:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Father Mike Ausperk celebrant. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Hospice Center of Medina, the St. Vincent DePaul Society or The Barberton Pregnancy Center at Sally’s request and in her honor.
