Jessie M. (Sadowski) Szeligo, 88, of Wadsworth (formerly of Akron), passed away at home with her loving husband at her side, on Wednesday, October 12, 2011.

Jessie was born on November 27, 1922 in Adena, to John and Rose Sadowski and was the youngest of their four daughters. After graduating from Adena High School in 1940, this proud coal miner’s daughter packed up and moved to Wheeling, West Virginia where she worked in a toy factory. As World War II went on, Jessie moved to Detroit and was the quintessential “Rosie the Riveter”, working at an airplane factory. But as the war ended, Jessie moved back to West Virginia and the love of her life, Walter Szeligo (whom she had met while living in West Virginia the first time), returned home as well. The two got married on October 5, 1946, and began a life together that was capped off with a landmark Anniversary of 65 years celebrated just a week before her death. After getting married and having two of their five children, Jessie moved to Akron, Ohio with her family where she proceeded to raise her five wonderful children, while regularly attending Annunciation Catholic church. Jessie loved playing cards and playing the slots, as well as spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her sister, Ann Bennett, Stella Dzingelshi, and Louise Sadowski.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Walter; sons, Frank (Patsy); Robert; and John (Joe Wright); daughters Diane (Bob) Kleinman, and Janet (Chris) Briggs; and grandchildren, Clark, Brian, Ben, and Gwen Szeligo; Lauren and Jessica Kleinman; and Jeremy and Emily Briggs.

There will be a funeral mass on Tuesday, October 18, 11:00 AM at Visitation of Mary Catholic Church, 87 Broad St., Akron, OH 44305. Donations may be made in Jessie’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 70 West Streetsboro St. Ste 201 Hudson, OH 44236 or to Visitation of Mary.
