Obituary
Michael (Mike) Tehi, age 76, of Wadsworth, OH passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on July 1, 2018. Mike was born on August 7, 1941 in Vestaburg, PA to the late Michael Tehi, Sr. and Charlotte O’Hara Tehi.
“Mr. Tehi” was an Industrial Arts teacher, Dean of Boys and wrestling coach at Barberton High School for 30 years, lovingly remembered as mentor and role model to hundreds of young men and women, and fierce supporter of teachers’ rights as President of the Barberton Education Association and member of the contract negotiation team. From 1983 to 1996 he also owned Mike’s Gold Bar in Akron, OH, serving up beverages and life lessons to many college students and young adults. After retiring from teaching, Mike enjoyed 13 years as a successful real estate agent.
Mike attended Beth Center High School in Pennsylvania and earned a BA in Industrial Arts from California University of Pennsylvania in California, PA as well as a Master of Industrial Arts from Kent State University in Kent, OH.
Mike loved life – teaching, boating, the beach, traveling, and recounting every moment with the circle of wonderful people who knew him as a storyteller, an entertainer, and a steadfast, loyal friend. Above all, Mike loved his family. On February 6, 1960 he married his high school sweetheart, Beatrice McMannes Tehi, remaining her best friend through 58 years of marriage. In addition, Mike was the committed, protective and proud father of three daughters and sons-in-law, Marlene A. Tehi and husband Eric Schniegenberg of Cleveland, OH; E. Renee Tehi and husband Jeffrey Hughes of Hartford, CT; and B. Lorraine Tehi Dirks and husband Peter Dirks of Aurora, IL. Mike was pre-deceased by one brother, Thomas John Tehi, who passed away in 1943.
The family will receive friends Friday, July 6 at 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman Street, Wadsworth, OH. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 7 at 9:30 AM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, 260 Broad Street, Wadsworth, OH.
