Obituary
Arville Landon West, December 8, 1926 to November 20, 2018. Arville was a faithful husband and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. Born in Wetzel County, West Virginia.
He proudly served as a Sergeant in US Army from January 1946 to November 1948. He worked for Babcox & Wilcox for 37 years from January 31, 1952 to 1989.
Arville was a dedicated worker who began his career as a sweeper/grinder, moved up to welder, then fitter, head union shop steward and finally supervisor. After retiring from B&W, Arville held several other full time positions for companies such as Neidert Fabricating and Advanced Elastomers. Each time the companies thought they were hiring an “old guy” and instead they discovered they were getting Arville, someone who often worked circles around younger men. Arville’s skills took him to Mull Iron in Rittman where he helped build the beams for both the Football Hall of Fame Bridge over I-77 in Canton and the beams over the Akron Art Museum.
Arville was a member of The Chapel, Wadsworth Campus where he arrived early making coffee for the morning service for years. Arville was the go-to bull moose of the family, always willing to lend a hand to a family in need and built keepsakes for many in the family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Marilyn (Bartram) West, parents; John Landon and Lucinda (Kirkman) West, grandparents; Friend Cox and Mary Bell (Huff) West, John and Jane (Burton) Kirkman, siblings; Mae Dennis, Opal Burkhart, John Marvin West, Rosie Yaus, Hazel Howell, Alice Heskett, Lindsey West, Katherine West, Ruth Howell, Wilbert West, and Mary Riley.
