Thelma Grace Whitman (nee Howard) loving and devoted mother and “gram” died peacefully at home on October 27, 2016. She was born in Kenmore, Ohio on July 22, 1924.

Preceded in death by her husband, best friend and love of her life, Ray, of 47 years; parents Shirley and Grace Howard; sister Vivian; brothers Paul, Wayne and Carroll “Blackie” Howard. Thelma is survived by her three sons, David (Nancy) of New Jersey, Mark (Jeannie) of Texas, and Larry (Nancy) of Wadsworth; daughter Lori Engstrom (Gary) of North Carolina; brother Dale of New Jersey; loving grandchildren Ryan (Marisa), Kristen, Betsy, Carrie, Andrew, Lauren, Molly and Erin; step grandson Kris (Laurie) and family; and many nieces and nephews.

Thelma lived her entire life in the Western Star and Wadsworth area. She was a graduate of Norton High School and Hammel Actual Business School. She worked at B&W in Barberton; was a member of the Wadsworth United Methodist Church; a volunteer and past president of the Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital Auxiliary and served on the Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital Board of Trustees. Thelma was one of the first to be honored in the Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital Founders Hall. Thelma was an avid Cavs fan and was so proud of them when they won the NBA Championship in June. She enjoyed music, golf, bridge and many other activities with her wide circle of friends.

The family will receive friends 2-5pm Sunday at the Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 N. Lyman St., Wadsworth. Funeral service will be conducted 11am Monday at Wadsworth United Methodist Church, 195 Broad St., Wadsworth with Rev. Donald Ebert officiating. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
