Wadsworth, OH

Thomas Eugene Witschey completed the earthly mission God provided him on Monday, January 18, 2021. He was born in Wadsworth, Ohio to Frank and Estella Witschey on September 20, 1929.
He will be missed most by his loving wife of 58 years (Josephine), his sons Frank (Arze) and Jeffrey (Elianna) and the focus of his love and pride, his precious grandchildren, Amanda, Thomas (“Tommy”), Patrick, Gabriella, Paul, Michelle, and Peter.
He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served as a lector, parish council member, and eucharistic minister. He graduated from Wadsworth High School and then faithfully served his country for 4 years in the United States Navy, Atlantic Fleet, Norfolk Air Base. When he arrived back home to the Akron area, he attended Kent State University and soon entered the real estate title insurance business where he became an industry icon in the Akron area. In 1978 he founded Buckeye Reserve Title Agency, Inc. successfully growing the business until he retired in 1996. He served many years as Wadsworth Planning Commission chairman overseeing the beginning of Wadsworth’s northside development in the 1970’s. He also served as a trustee for the Calmoutier Memorial Association, a charitable organization for the preservation of St. Genevieve Church, one of the first Catholic Churches in the Ohio Western Reserve, founded by his ancestors from France and now an Ohio historical landmark in Holmes County.
His family, friends and business associates recognized him as an oracle of wisdom, an exemplar of restrained temperament, a paragon of Christian virtue, and a model of integrity. His grandchildren adored him often referring to him as the GOAT (greatest of all time). He enjoyed time spent with his daughters-in-law, whom he referred to as the daughters he never had. He was an avid golfer and often reflected on his times at RAWIGA Country Club and golf trips with his sons, grandsons, nephews and friends. He was also an avid Wadsworth High School football fan, attending nearly every home and away game for 60 years and nearly every home game after that until the 2020 pandemic prevented attendance. His most favorite times in life were spent with family and friends and watching his grandchildren participate in sports, music, and dancing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his parent-in-laws Joseph and Bianca Borsellino, his sister Agnes Hurley (John), brother Bernard Witschey (Dixie), sister-in-law Mary Canestraro (Richard), and brother-in-law David Archer. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his sister-in-law Angela Archer and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
