Michael “Mike” York was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. Most of his adult life was spent in Northeast Ohio. He loved being raised in the south and shared many stories of experiences with his family, friends, and as a Boy Scout.

In 2017 Mike retired from the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA), where he held the position of Deputy General Manager of Operations. For over fifty years he successfully directed and managed service operations, including transportation planning and development projects.

In 1967 he began his career at Kent State University as a bus driver and training instructor while he was attending school. After graduating with a BA in Psychology, Mike worked diligently to advance in his career to senior positions in the public transportation industry, from Atlanta (MARTA) to Dallas (DART), then Cleveland with the GCRTA.

Mike was highly dedicated to his career, had a strong work ethic, and was a leader. In his free time, he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He also loved to fish, play golf, ride motorcycles, and play guitar. Overall, he was a good man, son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Mike is proceeded in death by his mother Juarene York, and father Henry York.

He is survived by his wife Debra, son Michael Ryan (Kimberly), daughter Katie (Andrew), and grandchildren, Dylan, Casey, Ayla, and Dean. Mike also had a beloved brother Jerry (Sandy), along with a nephew Jay (Cindy), niece Robin, and multiple extended family members.

A private family service will be held for Mike on Saturday, March 30th, 2024.
